High Androgen & Liver damage

Elevated androgen levels, especially in women with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), are closely linked to a higher risk of developing non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). This connection is largely due to the influence of androgens on liver metabolism and function. In PCOS, excess androgens can impair the liver’s ability to manage fats and sugars effectively, leading to increased liver fat accumulation. Notably, studies have shown that high androgen levels are associated with greater liver fat content, even in the absence of obesity or insulin resistance. One potential explanation is that androgens may disturb the liver’s internal clock, affecting the regulation of key metabolic genes and contributing to liver dysfunction and fat buildup.
